Today was a short driving day. We only had to go about 192 miles to get us to a nice campground in Las Cruces, New Mexico. That got us into a good position to visit White Sands National Monument tomorrow. The drive might have been short, but the views were incredible! We drove out of Carlsbad National Park and right alongside the magnificent mountains of Guadalupe National Park. The air was crisp and clear and the temperatures only got into the high 80's with a nice dry breeze. We heard you hit triple digits there, but out here it's wonderful. We stopped in at the entrance to the Guadalupe National Park, enjoyed the views, got our National Parks Passport stamped, and headed back out to Las Cruces.
Once we got into Las Cruces and got the trailer set up at a really nice KOA campground, we drove a few miles to Mesilla and found a restaurant that Kim's boss had recommended that we try. The restaurant is called La Posta and it's been in businees for over 70 years. We knew why when we'd finished our meal.
We headed back to our campsite to hit the pool and were able to watch as a massive rain-storm marched across the valley floor below us. I forgot to mention that our trailer space is perched on a hillside, high above the valley that contains Las Cruces and Mesilla. The views are incredible, both during the day, and at night. At any rate, we barely got our awning retracted before an intense, 15-minute storm rolled overhead. I think we got at least an inch of the 9 inches of rainfall this area gets yearly.
